What It Is Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (HMG) is a gonadotropin preparation derived from the urine of post-menopausal women, containing both Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinising Hormone (LH) in approximately equal proportions, along with small amounts of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). FSH stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles in females and spermatogenesis in males, while LH triggers ovulation and steroidogenesis. HMG is studied extensively in reproductive endocrinology and fertility science for its role in gonadal stimulation.
How It Is Used HMG is reconstituted with sterile water and administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. In research contexts, it is used in reproductive biology studies, ovarian stimulation modelling, male gonadal function research, and investigations into pituitary–gonadal axis signalling.
